About me
With over 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience, I am a dedicated and qualified Chemistry teacher, passionate about helping students succeed. I hold an MChem degree and a PhD in Chemistry, as well as a PGCE in Secondary Science.
My PhD research focused on organic chemistry, specifically the synthesis of modified versions of coenzyme A to study enzyme mechanisms. Before transitioning to education, I worked as a research scientist in the pharmaceutical industry, contributing to the development of a treatment for type 2 diabetes.
Tutoring Experience
As an experienced teacher and tutor, I bring a deep understanding of both the subject matter and the nuances of exam preparation. I am also a seasoned Examiner for the Edexcel and OCR exam boards, which gives me valuable insights into what Examiners look for when marking exams. This experience allows me to effectively coach students in exam technique, helping them maximize their potential.
My Approach
I believe that every student has unique needs, so I tailor each session to address the specific topics they want to cover. Regular assessments help me identify areas where students may need additional support. I emphasize the importance of consistent exam practice, often assigning past paper questions as homework to reinforce learning and build confidence.
My goal is to make Chemistry accessible and engaging, ensuring that students not only understand the material but also develop the skills and confidence needed to excel in their exams.
